scout offerings

  • Innovation Academy offers opportunities to learn and earn badges in woodworking, robotics, engineering, design, electronics, and more! We have worked privately with multiple Girl Scout troops serving Daisies through Ambassadors.

    Innovate and Create Badge

The girl scouts will problem solve and overcome budgeting hurdles as they design a contraption to keep an egg safe. Our leaders will guide them through the process, helping the girls build devices to safeguard the eggs from the drop. You'll work together to plan your approach, using "BuildMo Bucks" to get materials. In addition, students will learn how to use a laser cutter to enhance their designs and create precise components. After all the excitement, we'll gather for a reflective session where you can think back on what you learned and how you collaborated.

STEM Career Exploration Badge- Computer Science

Think Like and an Engineer Badge

We teach the girls scouts how to assemble and code a Cutebots. Following engineering principles, they modify the code to control lights, play music, and react to inputs. The coding challenge involves navigating the Cutebot robots through a maze, demonstrating coding skills and problem-solving.

STEM Career Exploration Badge- Creative Technology and Design

We teach the girls to use Adobe Illustrator to create their own unique wooden lanterns. They'll learn about a laser cutter to craft precise models, master portraying unique features, and explore cutting and engraving materials for 3D models. Take home an awesome lantern.

Contact us with your badge requirements and we will find an offering to fit your needs! We have previously worked with Juniors, Brownies, and Cadettes on the woodworking badges as well as several engineering options!

    Engineering Process Badge

    Inventor Badge

    Junior Art and Design Badge

udents will learn the wonders of 3D printing technology. Through handson activities and engaging lessons, they'll discover how to successfully print on Ender 3, 3D printers. We will teach students how to work with different Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software platforms to create their own designs prepares them for the digital design aspect of the 3D printing process. Everything students print, they can take home!

    Model Car Design Challenge

Students are divided into groups and given materials to construct their own slot cars. They must design the cars to maintain contact with the copper tape on the track. Once the cars are built, students test them on a smaller section of the track. They observe how the motor converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, propelling the car forward. Students make necessary adjustments to their cars, such as fine-tuning the design, improving stability, and optimizing contact with the copper tape. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity

Innovation Academy at Building Momentum is excited to offer STEM Summer Workshops in partnership with the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for both Scouts and non-scout students. During the week long experience, Scouts will have the opportunity to earn the Electronics, Model Design & Building, and Entrepreneurship Merit Badges as well as earn the NOVA STEM: Next Big Thing Award from BuildMo's BSA registered Merit Badge & NOVA Award Counselors.

Scouts will learn technology and skills in addition to meeting the merit badge requirements. Technology will include Laser Cutting, 3D printing, soldering, and Computer Aided Design (CAD).

This is a youth education program focused on problem-solving designed to integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and innovation among students. The program aims to foster a deeper understanding of complex real-world challenges and encourage students to develop effective solutions!

    Register through NCAC available here.

  • In addition to our Merit Badge Days and STEM Summer Workshops, we can schedule a private merit badge session for your troop. We have an Eagle Scut on staff serving as a Merit Badge Counselor in the following:

    • Composite Materials

    • Drafting

    • Electricity

    • Electronics

    • Entrepreneurship

    • Model Design & Building

    • Robotics

    • Welding

    • Game Design

There is a minimum of 6 scouts to run a private merit badge session. Cost is $45 per scout.

Each of these projects not only helps the scouts earn their badges but also fosters valuable skills in STEM fields and encourages creativity and problem-solving.

We require a minimum of 6 scouts per session. The price for each 2-hour class is $35. Weekdays work best for our team.
